Quilt Raffle

Do you remember reading in your RVW magazine the following?  Help create an RVW Quilt – One Square at a Time…. Three themes were selected for the squares:  RVing Women, Environmental Scenes, Camping.  Then, the next series of ads came out saying…Lucky You! You Could Own One Of These RVW Quilts!  Three beautiful quilts, fashioned from squares donated by RVing Women.  This wonderful project was conceived and implemented by Christine Ratzel of the Northeast Network Chapter.

Each of us, who sat in the audience at the convention, admired the quilts and speculated which quilt we would select if our name were lucky enough to be drawn. When the first two names were called out, the squeals of joy would go up and the winner raced up to make claims to the quilt of her choice. Then, the final name was drawn, and no one squealed. The person calling off the names had a very hard time pronouncing the name of the last winner. All we knew (those of us sitting in the audience) was the name wasn’t ours. Then, as they stumbled over the name one more time and stated that the winner was from Hayward, CA, another HUGE CHEER went up, because all the FreeWheelers in the audience knew that the winner was none other than our very own Jo Murdach! Jo had taken it upon herself to promote the sale of raffle tickets within our local chapter. Jo is a sweetheart and a very, very deserving winner. The quilt that was left wasn’t the one we would have chosen...but by the time we all got up to claim the quilt for Jo, the one remaining quilt was the very one many of the FreeWheelers would have selected, as it contained quilt squares made by our very own, Sheila Welt, Jackie Hogan, and Ardie Jarrett.

Jo is so very proud of her wonderful RVW quilt and will probably bring it along to several outings to show off, before determining where it will proudly displayed in her home. Congrats, Jo, as we couldn’t have picked a better recipient!
